“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
Here we are on day one of a new decade! I certainly don’t feel like a new creation at the minute. You can’t feel like a new creation when you go to bed at 2am in the morning! Ha!
Thankfully, just because I don’t feel it, doesn’t mean it’s not true! I am setting out today on a journey to make this truth an experiential reality in my life, and I hope you will come with me.
Before we set off, I would like to unpack this verse. I have been looking at it this morning on my Bible Sword app, and the Strong-Lite concordance has some interesting insight to the meaning of these Words.
“…be in Christ…”
What does it mean to “be in Christ”? One of the words that describes this concept is to be fixed into something. I wonder whether this may indicate the necessity of staying focused? How do I stay fixed into Christ.
This is my take on it: In order to experience the new creation life, we need to stay fixed on Jesus and focused on what He is doing in us.
“…a new creature…”
The word “new” has two meanings. There is the concept of something that is completely fresh, newly made, never used or worn. But the other concept describes something that has never been seen before!
This stirred my heart so much, because I believe that God is doing something in me that has never been done before. It is unique. It will not look like anything familiar!
I don’t have to compare what God is doing in me to what He is doing in you, because we are both new creatures, that has never been seen before!
“…all things are become new…”
So, look at this! The word “become”, includes the following:
1. To come into existence, to begin to be, to receive being…
2. To arise, to appear in history, to come upon the stage, to appear in public…
3. To be made of miracles, to be performed, to be finished…
When we stay fixed in Jesus, fixed on His words, fixed in His Spirit and presence, we will start to become (and develop into) something so new and unique. I believe that we start to take on the form of His original design, that He intended for us, before the foundations of the Earth were created.
Your unique design is made to be seen. To shine. To reflect the glory of God. Whoo! I am excited about 2020. A year of staying fixed in my identity in Christ and becoming the very Word that He speaks over me.
This is my decree: I am fixed into Jesus. I receive my “being” from Him. He is making me into something unique. I am a new creation! Amen.
Today, I hear the Father say: “Beautiful Child, the adventure begins. As you allow my Word to take root in you, I am making you fresh and new. It’s time to let go of the old and press into everything I say about you. Happy New You!” ❤
